We’re looking for an ambitious, self-motivated Assistant Video Editor and Graphic Designer (aka “Creative Video Editor”) with an interest in the apparel, beauty, fashion, health/fitness or finance verticals to join our thriving team! This role is fully remote.
Freelance assistant video Editors provide editing support to Chief Detective’s internal creative team. They are assigned to a designated client pod(s) and are responsible for processing UGC footage, cutting video stringouts of selects, cropping still images for social posts, assembling, revising and in some cases finishing editing projects based on communicated creative direction and performance insights.

What You’ll Do:
Crop images into various social media aspect ratios
Process UGC footage into selects string outs
Edit creative digital advertising video content for social media platforms.
Collaborate closely with production, strategy, data analysts, and other team members.
Communicate with client pod Creative Producers and Leads to ensure edits are executed based on performance goals.
Receive and implement creative direction and feedback from teammates and clients.
Develop both original and iterative video ads, taking inspiration from top-performing videos inside Chief Detective, as well as across the social media ecosystem.
Optimize the viewer’s experience of every video (storyline, composition, shot selection, copy, music, VO, GFX, pacing, transitions).
Actively implement performance editing best practices, with a focus on maximizing viewer engagement and comprehension.
Thoroughly review completed work for technical and quality errors and ensure that all outputs are aligned with specified brand and legal guidelines.
Deliver completed edits and revisions by established deadlines.
Follow internal post-production naming and organizational guidelines.
Work efficiently and maintain project file and server hygiene.
Contribute to researching and requesting internal and external media assets.
Work on an expanding list of Direct-to-Consumer brands.

Must Have:
Must provide a link to 2-5 projects that you created (these do not have to be ads: other kinds of professional work, or even side projects, are great too.)
3+ years of editing
1+ years experience editing for social media and digital platforms (advertising content a big plus).
Advanced knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop
Experience creating videos from scratch.
Strong attention to detail and project organizational skills
Solid graphic design skills
Solid written communications
Must first pass a Technology Audit to be considered.
Must work US daytime hours (available M-F, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm MT)
Experience with Motion Graphic Templates and Premiere’s Essential Graphics Panel.
Understanding of social media best practices and ecosystem trends.
Online editing skills: color correction, music supervision, sound mixing.
A firm grasp of digital camera formats, frame rates, codecs and file-based workflows.
Excellent communication and comprehension skills in English (both written and verbal).
Able to take direction well and conduct a thorough review of own work.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage editing many projects at once.
Familiarity with web-based collaboration tools, such as Frame.io, Zoom, Monday & Slack.
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Flexible and able to adapt to a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Able to conduct themselves in a professional, remote-first environment.
Nice to have:
Experience working on a collaborative team with other editors/producers/writers
Motion Graphics (AE) & Design experience a strong plus
Experience creating videos for social media.
Experience working for another pay for performance agency.
